銅賞を受賞

東京都武蔵野市吉祥寺に本店を構える写真館「らかんスタジオ」の代表取締役社長、鈴木観氏が、米国のプロ写真家団体Professional Photographers of America（以下PPA)が決定する Photographer of the Year Award（今年一番輝いている写真家へ授与される賞）の銅賞を受賞しました。鈴木氏は、2010年1月にテネシー州ナッシュビルにて開催されるPPAの代表者会議「Imaging USA」にて表彰される予定です。

PPAでは、メンバーが銅賞を受賞することにより、このとき提出されたすべての作品（最多４枚）が、同団体のGeneral Collectionに加えられます。これは、とても素晴らしく名誉ある業績です。 鈴木氏は、2009年に銅賞を受賞した、わずか61人のうちの１人となりました。

PPAのPhotographer of the Year Awardは、2004年に設立されました。以来、同賞は、世界の写真家の芸術的センスと技術の向上を促進し、コンテストを通して彼らの才能に発表の場を与えるべく、また、大衆が最上級の芸術作品を識別する力を養えるべく、発展を遂げてきました。

「同賞は、写真業界においても、最も評判の高いもののひとつです。」と、PPAの作品展示委員長であるへレン・ヤンシー氏は述べています。「この賞の受賞者は、PPAのInternational Print Competitionにおいて、一貫して彼らの作品の質の高さを証明しています。」

世界的な非営利団体であるPPAは、同団体の22,000人以上のメンバーが同志として、プロとして、芸術家として個々の目標を達成することを支援し、写真家という職業に対する大衆の認識力を高めるために存在します。さらに、芸術、科学、歴史の記録媒体としてなど、様々な分野において写真の在り方を向上させることに努めています。

2010年1月にテネシー州ナッシュビルにて開催されるPPAの代表者会議にて、らかんスタジオ代表取締役社長、鈴木観氏は、マスター・オブ・フォトグラファーの称号も同時に授与しました。

Local Photographer Earns Bronze Level Photographer of the Year Award

Kan Suzuki of Laquan Studio in Tokyo has earned a Bronze Level Photographer of the Year Award from Professional Photographers of America (PPA). He will be honored at PPA's annual convention, Imaging USA, in January in Nashville, TN.

A PPA member earns a Bronze Level Photographer of the Year Award by placing all four images included in their print case in PPA's renowned General Collection---an incredible accomplishment. In 2009, Kan Suzuki was one of only 61 Bronze Level Photographers of the Year.

2004 was the inaugural year for PPA's Photographer of the Year Awards. They were developed as a way to encourage photographers to improve their artistic and technical skills and demonstrate their tarent through competition, as well as a way for the public to discern the best of the best.

"These awards are among the most prestigious in the industry," confirms PPA Print Exhibition Committee Chairman Helen Yancy. "The recipients of these awards have proven the quality of their work on a consistent basis in one of the highest quality image competitions in the world, PPA's International Print Competition."

PPA, a worldwide association, exists to assist its more than 22,000 members in achieving their professional, artistic and fraternal goals, promote public awareness of the profession and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science and a visual recorder of histry.
